Plant Unit

Ch 7 SG: Photosynthesis

1.     Draw a diagram of a chloroplast and label it. Tell where the light-dependent and light- independent reactions occur.  Explain specifically how the structure of the chloroplast is related to its function.

2.     Describe the process of chemiosmosis in chloroplasts, trace the flow of energy from sunlight to ATP.

       3. & 4 do Applying the concepts # 1 & 2 on page 128 in your text.
Ch 23 Questions: Plant structure and growth (30 pts)
Complete Applying the concepts p494-495 #1-8.

9.     If you were to live for the next several decades in a tree house built on the large lower branches of a tree, would you  gain much altitude as you grew?  Explain your answer.

10.     Trace the route a water molecule would follow from the place where it enters a vascular plant until it is lost from a leaf by transpiration.

11.    A tip for making cut flowers last longer without wilting is to cut off the ends of the stems under running water and then transfer the flowers to a vase full of water while drops of water are still present on the ends of the stems. Is this an old wives tale or will it really work?  Explain your answer.

Ch 24: plant reproduction and development

7. How do auxins and cytokinin interact in determining the growth of lateral buds?

8. Which hormone(s)  is (are)  involved in leaf and fruit drop? In bud dormancy?
