BIBLIOGRAPHY/LITERATURE CITED

A bibliography is a list of the sources for a certain topic.  A literature cited is a list of only those sources which you actually cited (footnoted) in your paper.

Look at the written directions, then, copy all punctuation exactly. Note that all lines after the first are indented. Don't forget the period at the end.

Entries are single spaced, but you skip a line between them. Do NOT # them.

BOOK/PAMPHLET:
Known author
Author. Year of publication. Title of the book- capitalizing
     all words except articles and prepositions. Publisher,
     city. Total # pages in the book.

ex:
Beals, Ralph and H. Hoijer. 1985. An Introduction to
     Anthropology, 3 rd. ed. MacMillan, New York. 211p.

Unknown author
In this case the title of the book comes first.  The rest is the same as the above.

ex:
Creativity, Invention and Progress. 1971. Globe books, New
     York. 259p.

CITING AN ENCYCLOPEDIA:
Title of Encyclopedia-capitalize. year. "Article title- only
     capitalize the first word" volume: pages in the
     article.

ex:
The Golden book Encyclopedia. 1969. "Races of mankind" 13:
     1156-1157.

CITING A JOURNAL ARTICLE:
Known author
Author. Year of publication. Title of article-use capital
     letters only of  the first word and proper nouns. Title
     of the journal volume # (issue #): pgs included in the
     article.

ex:
Smith, A.W. 1980. Swine virus isolated from opal, an
     oceanic fish. Science 209(44):940-941.

Unknown author
In this case, the article title comes first.  The rest is the same as the above.

ex:
Strike force. 1994. Popular Mechanics 171(3): 60-63+.

SIRS:
Known author
Author. year. Article title. SIRS-name of the volume
     volume#:article #.

ex:
Rubin, L.S. 1979. Biofeedback: medicine's newest cure-all.
     SIRS-Health 2:3.

Unknown author:
*In this case, the article title comes first.  The rest is the same as the above.

ex:
The elderly in aging America. 1988. SIRS-Medicine 2:7.

COMPUTER PROGRAM/ DATA FILE:

Known author:
Author. year."Title of the article you looked up"[Name of the program]. Place of publication: Software                                                              company name.

ex:
Smith, R.L.1990-1992."Grassland"[Compton's Encyclopedia]. Los Angeles: Compton's Learning Company.

Unknown author:
"Title you looked up." year. [name of the program]. Place of publication:Name of software company.

Ex:"Grading scales". 1991-1993. [Making the grade].Colorado Springs:Jay Klein Productions.
