Mrs. Wright’s Living Environment grading procedures:

Grading       Cheating       Notebooks        Assignments        Labs    Lab grading      Bonus Board         Homework Passes         Ways to Raise your average

MY PHILOSOPHY:

• Everyone starts with a 100 average. It is up to you to keep it.

• You should be able to earn whatever grade you would like.

• If you do all your work on time, I promise you will pass. If you can't earn a passing grade, and you are doing all assignments,   then I must not be doing my job very well.

GRADING: Your grade will be calculated as a weighted average as follows: I take the total # of points you earned and divide it by the total possible.
For example if you get the following grades:
quiz            35/50             (70%)
                     HW #1      10/10             (100%)
                    HW #2        9/10               (90%)
                Your average would be 54 / 70  =         77%

**** Notice that this is a weighted average. The quiz was worth more points, so it had a greater effect on the overall average. QUIZZES, TESTS, LABS AND PROJECTS WILL HAVE THE BIGGEST EFFECT ON YOU OVERALL AVERAGE.

I will post your grades using your private ID # so that you can see how you're doing and check my math.
If you do NOT want your grades posted, please let me know.
CHEATING: Cheating will NOT be tolerated. If  you copy someone's paper, both you and the person from whom you copied will receive a grade of zero. If the copied work was a lab, you will have to redo the report to receive lab credit. ( It is OK for you and your partner to have the same data for a lab, but you should NOT have the same answers to the questions nor the same lab reoprt. Just because you "work together" you should NOt have all of teh same answers verbatim.).  I will call home. Repeated incidences will result in a referral.  As Shakespeare said " neither a borrower or a lender be".

NOTEBOOKS:

You must have a spiral Notebook 81/2X11"  for notes. You will recieve packets for each chapter. You will need some notebook paper.

Notebooks will be graded every time we have a major quiz.
10 pts each time

Notes should be kept neatly and in order. There will be required diagrams to staple include your notes.I will not grade you on keeping papers, but you must do so in order to check your grades against the computer printout. SO, you will also need a folder.

ASSIGNMENTS Heading Full Name                                                     course title date assignment                                         (pg. #s and Question #s) Late assignments: -10%

They are due at the start of class. "In my locker" or "someone locked my locker" means it is late

I will take off 10% per day from labs as well as projects up to 30 % off.

I will not accept HW assignments more than 1 day late
When absent: Pick up work from the absentee work file. You have as many days to make up work as you were absent.

IF you have a lesson or a field trip so that you miss class you still are responsible for turning in work and picking up assignments. If you are in the building that day you are "here"

Grammar spelling and neatness count on all papers. A 100% paper must be really perfect.

LABS:
See Lab grading format Labs are a major part of your grade (usually 40- 50 %) . They must be completed with a written lab report unless I tell you otherwise. The written lab report will be 1/2 of the grade.

I will accept late labs up to the end of the 5 week period. They will be - 10% per day late up to -30%. After that, they will be credit only.

During the first semester, you may rewrite labs to raise your grade. However, I will not raise it above 90%. and you may only rewrite labs from the current 5 wk period.

Typing your labs adds 10 % to your grade.

BONUS BOARD: Each week, there will be one or more ditto that you can do to receive extra credit. You will receive 1 pt added to your average for each ditto successfully completed. To receive the credit the ditto must be at least 90% correct. You cannot raise your grade by more than 10 points or get a 100% this way.

If you want a long-term bonus project see me to fill out a contract.

HOMEWORK PASSES: Students who maintain an average of 90% or better ( not including bonus points) will be on the HW pass list. They do not have to complete any written HW assignments except the following: (reading)
group work
labs
long term projects
HW pass list will be announced at the 5 wk point as well as the end of each quarter. Once on the list, you remain on it for the next 5 weeks.

Occasionally you may receive a HW pass in class which is a one time use (HW) pass. To use it you must record the assignment and the date on it. You must hang on to these passes. I have no record of them. You may use them for any assignments except those listed above, turn them in for a point on your average, or trade them for food. You can earn these HW passes by making sure that everyone in your lab class turns their lab in on time.

Bio bucks will be handed out for various things in class (answering hard questions, if the entire class has HW complete, timely clean up etc. 4 Bio bucks= 1 HW pass. To use them, follow the procedures outlined above.

WAYS TO RAISE YOUR AVERAGE:
  • Be sure to hand everything in on time. (Late assignments lose points)

• Type lab reports. It adds 10%.

• First semester only: Rewrite labs which are not as good as you would like them to be. You can raise them to 90%.

• Complete bonus dittos. These add +1 point to your average, if you get them 90% correct. (no more than 10 pts)

• Look for bonus points on tests, assignments etc. Because of the way I do your grades, a point is a point no matter how you earn it.

• Turn in HW passes for bonus points. (No more than 10 pts)
